Signing with the electronic DNI (eDNI) is an important and secure feature that allows Spanish citizens to authenticate and electronically sign documents and online transactions.

Electronic DNI certificate:
The Electronic DNI Certificate (also known as Digital Certificate or eDNI) in Spain is a digital document that allows citizens to carry out procedures and transactions online in a secure and authenticated manner. This certificate is issued in conjunction with the physical National Identity Document (DNI) and is supported by the Spanish Public Administration.

Activate electronic ID:
If you have a DNI 3.0 or 4.0 and want to activate the electronic DNI, it is necessary to go to a police station where the DNI is issued. There they have some machines just for this purpose. After entering your ID you have to enter the PIN that they gave you in an envelope when you got your ID or you can also use your fingerprint.

In Spain, to use the electronic DNI (DNIe or eDNI) and sign electronically without a DNI reader, a smart card reader or a specific DNI reader was generally required. However, there are technological advances that allow the NFC (Near Field Communication) technology of mobile devices to be used to interact with the DNI-E and perform electronic signatures.
